Cayucos Poll Place Changed

With the Vet’s Hall closed, voters in Cayucos will have to go to an alternative site to cast ballots in Tuesday’s Primary Election.

County Clerk-Recorder, Tommy Gong, said the new polling place will be the Cayucos Community Church, 60 S. 3rd St., at Ocean Avenue.

“We secure our polling places at least 6-months in advance of an election,” Gong said, “to avoid any scheduling issues. We don’t typically have a polling place location close on us so late in the game.” The Community Church volunteered to stand in for the election.

Sample ballots were already printed with the Vet’s Hall address when the County closed the facility in early May over concerns that it wasn’t structurally sound. Cayucos has but one polling site, where voters can cast ballots in person on Election Day.

Gong’s office sent out some 2,000 letters on the change in venue and signs will be posted at the Vet’s Hall alerting voters to the change. Information is also posted online at: www.slovote.com or call the County elections Office at 781-5228 with questions.

This is an important election for Cayucos as voters will be asked to increase the local fire tax in order to fund it’s local volunteer fire department. The alternative if the measure fails is to turn to SLO County for fire services. The department has enough funding for one more year of independent operations.
