Central Coast Pro Tennis Open By

Some of the top women’s pro tennis players descended on Templeton Tennis Ranch last week for the inaugural Central Coast Pro Tennis Open, with $60,000 in prize money awarded. It was a United States Tennis Association (USTA) sanctioned event, the first of its kind in San Luis Obispo County.

The tournament also featured some top amateurs like Gonzaga by way of Arroyo Grande’s Sophie Whittle, who won her first round match before losing to Laura Robson of Great Britain in the feature match on a warm, windless Thursday night.

The Director of Tennis at the Ranch Scott Cleere and owner Ralph Goehring were beaming all week, thrilled by the enthusiasm of fans and sponsors and the high level, competitive tennis everyone hoped for. “What a wonderful eight days of pro tennis featuring great play, while spotlighting our awesome tennis community on the central coast,” said Cleere.

Sachia Vickery of Hollywood, FL came out on top with a strong, straight sets victory over Jamie Loeb in the All-American championship singles match on Sunday afternoon.

The Templeton Tennis Ranch, located off Main Street just west of US 101 in North County, has been open since March 2015 and boasts several tennis/pickleball courts, a clubhouse, outdoor patio/deck and a nature trail around the facility.
