Elks Celebrate July 4th in SLO Style

All the essential elements came together for a fun and memorable Fourth of July at the San Luis Obispo Elks Lodge 322. Their annual celebration of the country’s independence  – that’s 240 years and counting, for the nation, not the Elks – included lots of sun, sparkling swim pools, shiny-happy people and festive rock/pop music from DJ Richard Jess. The Elks and guests set a great vibe for a relaxing, communal day with friends and family.

Add in the traditional bell ringing, Lee Greenwood’s famous ‘God Bless the USA’, a quarter dive in the big pool for kids and the festivities were on. Elks Trustee Cameron Boyne and his agile, hard-working food crews served hundreds of hungry members and guests with the standard holiday fare of hot dogs and cheeseburgers. Past Exalted Ruler Teresa Lara cruised the grounds selling raffle tickets. Free popsicles for the kids and drink specials kept everyone cool as the afternoon heated up.

The thriving, family-friendly Lodge with over 2,300 members is not just about fun and games. Members donated raffle prizes and the Lodge’s popular 50-50 raffle donates proceeds to local charities. The SLO Elks Lodge generously support veterans, youth and other community groups by raising thousands of dollars monthly with Bingo, the ‘Purple Pig’ and other activities.

So, Happy Birthday U.S. of A. Here’s to another 241 wonderful years!
