Foodie Event At Film Festival March 14

Teri Bayus, who writes “Dinner and a Movie” will host a first time foodie event in conjunction with the upcoming SLO International Film Festival.
“The best food always has a story,” Bayus said. “Sometimes it’s about the ingredients, a chef’s ingenuity or the memories created when shared with friends. Sometimes the story is so big it starts a movement and the food scene is forever changed.”
Bayus, who also hosts, “Taste Buds,” on local cable TV, said when she learned that the Film Festival was screening “Ella Brennan: Commanding the Table,” by Oscar and Emmy-nominated director and producer, Leslie Iwerks, a documentary about Ella Brennan, the matriarch of a New Orleans restaurant empire, she decided an Opening Night Foodie Party was in order.
Music will be by local favorites, Café Musique, playing their special brand of eclectic, high-energy, Gypsy music.
“It’s guaranteed to be a festive atmosphere that celebrates Miss Ella and the generous spirit of New Orleans,” said Bayus.
More than two dozen local chefs, wineries and breweries will share their favorite creations at the Mardi Gras-themed tasting and viewing party set for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 14 at the Fremont Theatre in Downtown San Luis Obispo.
Tickets are $50 general and $40 for students and SLO Film Society members. For tickets and list of participating restaurants and wineries, see: www.slofilmfest.org/opening-night-party-and-movie.
Admission includes unlimited food and drink tastes, Café Musique and viewing the new full-length documentary film. To see the film’s trailer go to: www.ellabrennanmovie.com/teaser.
