Good Day in the Sun for City Farm

On Oct. 8, Central Coast Grown hosted their first Annual Fall Harvest Festival at the Calle Joaquin Agricultural Reserve in SLO.

For visitors that could hear his presentation, Steven Marx, president of the nonprofit’s board stood in under a brand new pergola while he chronicled the three years of transition it took to get the property in a state for public consumption, as well as handing the mic over to three students from nearby Pacific Beach Continution High School who regularly take part in an educational garden project.

A hayride to the back acreage took attendees to visit the largest plot currently active, Red Barn Farms, owned by Javier Magana. While the iconic Red Barn he owns is actually on another property and not at the City Farm, Magana is making improvements on recently installed hoop-greenhouses. He hopes to be the only vendor at the  Farmers Market on Broad St. to be selling fresh tomatoes grown in SLO’s terra firma this Winter.
