Ninth Annual Softec Robotics Expo

Held for their second year at the Madonna Expo Center, the Softec Student Robotic’s Expo keeps getting bigger.

As ever the non-student exhibits featured interesting ideas on display.

CAL FIRE SLO brought a 2,000 gallon “pumpkin tank” for the submarines to play around in as adults parked their electric vehicles out front for an impromptu car show this year. Virtual Reality technology that runs on a laptop was a new interactive treat courtesy of a SLO-base software company.

The folks from SLO MakerSpace, with a public shop off Higuera Road, also set up an arcade emulator system from founder Clint Slaughter’s project collection.

Cuesta College’s engineering department got in on the action as well with a booth that was rooted in giving the attending high school students a view towards local continued STEM education.

Softec, the local engineering and technology interest group which hosts the event, raised a total of $11,500 from sponsors for the 12 Central Coast high school robotics teams.
