A local company wants people to add to their paint-bucket list of local charities it can donate its supplies and services too.
Browder Painting (BP), a local painting company, is continuing its Give Thanks by Giving program for the second year. The program allows the public to nominate charities and local non-profits to receive supplies and services from the company free of charge. The company has not set a limit on the number of businesses it will help for 2018. The deadline to nominate an organization is Jan. 31.
At the beginning of 2017, BP performed three charitable projects to RISE, YMCA and the Boys and Girls Club of North County (BGCNC).
“Browder Painting is celebrating its twenty-fifth year serving SLO County,” said Ryan Browder, who co-owns the business with his wife Jennifer, “We believe that painting helps to brighten our community and we are glad to help local charities with their missions in this way.”
Jennifer said that BP has been donating their time and services for some time, however, after talking to clients about different needs in the community, the company decided to expand their philanthropic reach.
“We have been donating to charities that we had been familiar with for years,” said Jennifer. “After talking to some of our clients who had suggested some other charities that they were affiliated with, we formalized it into the program last year as Giving Thanks by Giving and [started] accepting nominations from clients and the public.”
The program has been a success in showing the company where they can help outside of their normal realm of influence.
“It sort of brought to light a lot of the needs of a lot of the facilities of different charities around the Central Coast that we previously weren’t aware,” said Jennifer.
The first recipient was RISE. The non-profit works to create a community free of intimate partner and sexual violence through advocacy, education, prevention and believes that public policy is the keys to social change, according to its website. BP donated $8,800 worth of labor and paint to the company by painting RISE’s new facility in San Luis Obispo.
“They (RISE) were really enthusiastic about it, they had just moved into a brand new office in San Luis Obispo,” said Jennifer. “It was really large and a very, very dark color…by the time we were done it was fresh and just had a welcoming feel to it. I know that they were very happy and we really enjoyed working with them.”
BP repainted the exterior of the building that houses the BGNCN’s Out-of-School Programs. The programs actively seek to enrich the lives of members with a focus on 3 outcome areas: academic success, character development, good citizenship and healthy lifestyles, according to their website.
The Y received a fresh coat in its interior offices and common areas “providing a renewed, energetic look.”
