SLO’s 9th Annual Brews and Bites

The Annual Brews and Bites Festival in San Luis Obispo’s Mission Plaza was held for the ninth year on Sept. 2.

Different for this year they kicked of a Wing Fest, with a competition among the food vendors that join area breweries. Andrea Miller of Spikes Pub won the day.

Honored, Miller said, to have taken part since the first year in the event that supports the Woods Humane Society with its proceeds, she was glad Spikes’, “Atomic sauce didn’t kill anyone, but I think we were close due to the heat of the day.”

The  – now award winning – wings are available on Spikes’ Wing Wednesdays.

Food vendor What the Truck of SLO placed second and the new venue Vegetable Butcher of SLO came in third.

Also for the first time ever for a Mission event, a band of vegans took places outside to protest the festival. They seemed to find some irony in the charity supporting the Woods home for cats and dogs.  If the volunteers ever take in a chicken or a python we’re sure they know who to call now.
