Woman Attacked in Her Home

San Luis Obispo police are investigating a frightening Hitchcock-like attempted sexual assault, after a man attacked a college student inside her home as she was getting out of the shower.

According to SLOPD Lt. John Bledsoe, at about 11:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4 police responded to the 1200 block of Foothill Blvd., for a report of a sexual assault ion progress.

“The victim in this case is a 22-year-old Cal Poly student,” Lt. Bledsoe said. “When police arrived at the location, the suspect had already fled the scene in an unknown direction.”

The woman said she did not know her attacker who, “tried to sexually assault her in her apartment just as she had stepped out of the shower.” The victim wasn’t physically injured, Lt. Bledsoe said, and the suspect left “prior to completing a sexual assault.”

The victim described the suspect “as a light-skinned black or Hispanic male adult in his mid to late 20s.” He was about 5-foot 9-inches to 5’10” tall with an average build, “and possibly a shaved head.”

He did not have to break into the apartment, as the door was left unlocked.

He was wearing a white, plaid print shirt, black leather style jacket, black ski gloves, and blue jeans with tan stitching. The victim also described his shoes as white Converse sneakers, Lt. Bledsoe said.

The suspect description is similar to victim accounts that arose from a series of similar assaults of college co-eds from several years ago, when several women said they’d been attacked while walking at night in the Foothill Boulevard area near campus.

Lt. Bledsoe declined to comment on any possible connections, saying they were still early in their investigation.

Detectives are investigating this case and ask that anyone who has information on the case to call the SLOPD or Crime Stoppers (549-STOP).

Lt. Bledsoe said, “The police department would also like to remind the public to lock and secure the windows and doors to your homes, and report any suspicious activity in your neighborhoods.”
