Financial Wellbeing Seminar Now Empowers Women and Men in San Luis Obispo

9024668Economics of Being a Woman introduces a co-ed financial education seminar due to requests from men
SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA – March is Gender Equality Month and the need for financial education for women in San Luis Obispo County is well documented.  However, many women are nurturers and have a hard time spending money on themselves.  In general, if they have an extra dollar, they will spend it on a child or significant other.  That, combined with their fear of finances, has kept many women from attending this valuable seminar.  Men have asked for financial education and Economics of Being of a Woman made a decision to address their needs by offering a co-ed financial education seminar in San Luis Obispo on March 21.
Libbie Agran and Andrea Wasko brought Economics of Being a Woman to the SLO area three years ago.  Andrea was interviewed on a radio show about financial education.  Many of the people who called in during the show were men who stated that their wives took care of the finances.  Some of these men had experienced the death of their wife or a divorce, which lead them to realize that they needed and wanted financial education.  Another caller was a woman who had attended the seminar and stressed the importance of financial education.  She became a widow unexpectedly in her 40’s and encouraged other women to educate themselves now and not to wait.  Some couples do not discuss finances and they expressed an interest in attending together.  “Our goal is to address the needs of the community which lead to our decision to offer a co-ed seminar” says Wasko.
“I have seen amazing changes in women’s lives since they have attended our seminars” states Andrea.  Women leaving abusive relationships because they realize, through the exercises in our seminars, that they will be able sustain themselves financially.  The empowerment starts in the financial area and then spreads to other aspects of their lives.  This transformation is such a joy to observe” says Andrea.
The March 21 seminar is the only public seminar scheduled for 2015.  This seminar is hands on and includes Lecture, Individual Exercises, Small Group Activities, Large Group Exercises and Discussion.  Each participant receives a take home binder to help them start organizing their lives.  “We provide unbiased financial education only and do not sell any financial products” states Wasko.  Once a person attends our seminars, they can attend any of our Sponsored Speaker Presentations free.  Professionals in their fields, who can give legal or financial advice, lead these dinner presentations.
The Economics of Being a Woman seminars were created by financial advisor Libbie Agran, who has more than 35 years of experience in financial planning and investment management. Agran is senior advisor at Libbie Agran Financial Services in Santa Monica.
The March 21 co-ed financial education seminar entitled “Financial Wellbeing:  Learn to Build Wealth at Any Age” will be held in San Luis Obispo. Registration is available here.  Space is limited to 20 participants.

New employment, marriage, career changes, divorce, aging parents, inheritance, widowhood or the uncertain economic climate were compelling a closer look at their personal money affairs. Agran found that there was a profound difference in the way that women approached money as opposed to men.
