Missing SLO Man Found Dead

The search for a missing elderly Alzheimer’s patient in rural San Luis Obispo has ended badly.
Richard Korsgaard, 75, went missing sometime before 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29 and he was last seen walking in the 200 block of Baron Canyon Ranch Rd., in rural SLO.

Considered “at-risk” due to his health, he’d wandered away from his home in the 200 block of Palm Ridge Rd., according to the Sheriff’s Department.
A search and rescue effort was launched to find him including Sheriff’s deputies, the Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team, and a CHP helicopter.
Over the next couple of days, the search intensified with the effort finally including Sheriff’s deputies, detectives, and K-9s, a Sheriff’s Office Aero Squadron helicopter, a CHP helicopter, SLO Sheriff’s Dive, and Search and Rescue teams, and search and rescue personnel from Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles, Monterey, Fresno, Tulare and Kern counties involved in the search.
At about 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1 Korsgaard was located at the bottom of a steep, heavily wooded ravine about a quarter mile northwest of Balm Ridge Court, about 1-2 miles from his home on Balm Ridge Way. He was deceased.
“Investigators on scene determined there is no evidence of criminal activity or suspicious circumstances involved with Korsgaard’s death,” said Sheriff’s spokesman Tony Cipolla. The cause of death was not immediately determined, pending an autopsy.
