SLO Man Arrest in Elderly Assault

San Luis Obispo Police arrested a local man for allegedly assaulting and severely beating an elderly woman before she was rescued by neighbors.

According to SLOPD Sgt. Chad Pfarr, police were called about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12 with a report of an assault in progress at “a residential building” in the 900 block of Monterey St.

When officers arrived, Sgt. Pfarr said, they located an 82-year-old female assault victim being attended by neighbors and the suspect being restrained by neighbors.

“Investigating officers learned the female victim heard a commotion outside her front door and went to check on the noise,” Sgt. Pfarr said. “When she opened the door, Terrell pushed his way into the residence and forced the victim to the ground where he began punching her repeatedly.”

The victim screamed for help and her neighbors came to her aid, and stopped the alleged assault.

The victim was transported to the hospital by ambulance and treated for lacerations and a concussion before being released from the hospital. Terrell, 56 of SLO was booked into County Jail and charged with suspicion of felony first degree burglary, felony elder abuse with an enhancement for causing great bodily harm to someone over 70, and making threats to commit a crime of violence.

Asked as to possible motive for the attack, Sgt. Pfarr said, “We do not have a motive and the attack appeared to be completely random. They are neighbors and the victim opened the door because she thought he might have been in some sort of distress. He was not intoxicated.”

Police ask anyone who has information related to this crime or this man, to call SLOPD at (805) 781-7312 or Crime Stoppers at (805) 549-STOP.
