Summer Nights at Farmer’s Market

As the Central Coast heads further into the summer season, there is much to look forward to at Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market. Even though the days have gotten longer, the SLO Downtown Association has ensured that every Thursday the community of San Luis Obispo will have plenty to do during the extra hours of sunlight. Be prepared because the month of July brings with it a month full of entertainers, celebrations and fan-favorite activities.
For starters, the fourth installment of Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market’s Fresh Picked Concert Series, presented by the San Luis Obispo Collection, will roll out on July 9th with local band, TROPO. The past three concerts have been a huge hit for locals and tourists alike and the upcoming show will be no different.  TROPO is a high-energy group of three individuals that combine layered beats, soaring violins, and vocal melodies to create a dynamic sound that is guaranteed to get you moving. Make sure you stop by the Harvest Stage in the Union Bank Parking Lot on July 9th from 6:30PM to 8:30PM to experience TROPO’s dynamic sound.
On July 16th Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market is honored to be a part of the 2015 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.  The Torch Run is an actual running event, in which officers and athletes will travel the length and breadth of California before bringing the Flame of Hope™ to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum as part of the Opening Ceremony for the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games. Stop by Chorro Street at 6:30PM on July 16th, for a public ceremony with 100 police officers (including our own SLOPD Lieutenant Bill Proll) and 10 Special Olympic athletes.
Another highlight of the July 16th Farmers’ Market will be the SLO County Band performance. For over 130 years they have been a true community band, welcoming individuals of all ages with a desire to play brass, woodwind and percussion instruments.  With members from all over SLO County, they delight their audiences with beautiful music. Come out to the corner of Chorro and Higuera to witness the live performance of this wonderful group. https://www.slocountyband.org/oldphoto.htm
The recent addition to the 2015 Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market, STEAM Alley will make its routine appearance during the last market of the month, July 30th.  With an emphasis in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math, local organizations will line Garden Street with interactive learning experiences for people of all ages.
Every Thursday night The Market features up to six entertainers along the side streets and at the top and bottom of the Higuera Street closure.  A few to get excited for in the month of July are Academy of Dance on July 16, Lord of the Cello also know as the “Cello Master Blaster” on July 23 and singer/songwriter Carmine Terraciano on July 30.
As always, you will be able to find farm-fresh produce and goods, a huge assortment of delicious cuisine and kid-favorites like face painting, balloon animals, bounce house and Downtown SLO’s furry friend, Downtown Brown.  Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market is the Central Coast’s best Thursday evening summer activity- don’t miss out.   Discover. Local. Flavor.
