Cuesta Grade Work Starts

banner_roadWorkAheadCaltrans has begun a project to resurface the Cuesta Grade in both directions from Reservoir Canyon Road to the Cuesta Overhead of the Southern Pacific Railroad tracks instilling overnight lane closures and potential traffic delays, now through sometime in September.
“Motorists will encounter lane closures in both directions of US Highway 101 during the overnight hours, Sunday night through Friday morning from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m.,” Caltrans said in a news release. “Motorists will also encounter lane closures Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. There will be no lane or shoulder closures on Fridays from 6 a.m. through Sundays until 8 p.m.”
Fortunately, the project will be suspended during the Mid State Fair, July 22-Aug. 2. The Highway Patrol plans to step up enforcement during the work and readers are reminded that fines are doubled in construction zones.
The contractor for the $3.1 million project is Telfer Highway Technologies of McClellan, Calif. For traffic updates on other state highways in San Luis Obispo County, motorists may call Caltrans District 5 Public Affairs at 549-3318 or see the website at: www.dot.ca.gov/dist05/road_information.htm.
