Kidical Mass, that family friendly, summer, cycling event that runs once a month through SLO’s bike friendlier avenues, had a tinge of patriotism just ahead of this national holiday.
Children of all ages ride side-by-side with their families during the events, “learning important bicycle safety skills in a fun, festive way” from the folks over at the SLO County Bicycle Coalition.
Held annually since 2012, t20150702_172738he rides have become one of the organization’s largest and most popular outreach events.
Each ride has a different theme and both kids and parents are encouraged to dress up in costume and decorate their bikes too.
July 2 marked the first time th20150702_175716at the seasonal, “Stars and Stripes,” motif was tried out but through the years many whimsical concepts have had a turn.
Not surprisingly “Superheroes” is an annual favorite with variations on the costumes making appearances throughout the summer.
20150702_175758The official mission of the rides is to, “Educate families to ride smart, and increase the visibility of families on bicycles. Provide a safe space for kids and families to learn how to ride together at a mellow pace. And, teach kids the basic rules of the road.”
