Sheriff Hunts Escapee

The County Sheriff’s Department is looking for a man who escaped from a work detail and while he is not considered dangerous, he is on the lam from authorities.

“The Sheriff’s Office received a report of an inmate who walked away from a daily work program at Camp San Luis Obispo,” said Sheriff’s spokesman, Tony Cipolla. Adilio Lopez, 35, was an inmate at the County Honor Farm out on a work detail at the camp, said Cipolla.

Apparently, it wasn’t an escape on the Sheriff’s watch. “At the time, Lopez was being supervised by Camp San Luis Obispo employees,” Cipolla said. “Lopez was last seen wearing Honor Farm clothing of a blue shirt and blue jeans and riding a gray BMX bicycle.”

Lopez was arrested on suspicion of burglary charges last April 29, Cipolla said. Lopez is a Hispanic man, 5-feet 2-inches tall, and approximately 170 pounds. Sheriff’s deputies and detectives, Camp SLO personnel, and the Highway Patrol were actively searching for Lopez, Cipolla said.

“Lopez is not considered dangerous and has no known history of violence,” he reassured. “At this time there appears to be no public safety concern, but we are asking for the public’s help in trying to locate Lopez.”

If anyone sees someone matching his description, Cipolla said, they are asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (805) 781-4550.
