Transient Arrested for Brandishing Knife

San Luis Obispo Police arrested a transient man for allegedly threatening a Downtown store clerk with a knife. According to Lt. Brian Amoroso, police were called at 9:40 p.m. May 30 to the Rocket Fizz Store at Higuera and Broad streets, where a store employee said a man was threatening him or her with a knife.

The suspect took off before officers arrived. He was described as a white, transient man, wearing a brown trench coat and carrying an athletic bag. The angry fellow vanished but reappeared the next afternoon.

“On May 31, at 3:47 p.m.,” Lt. Amoroso said in a news release, “the victim saw the suspect in front of the store and called 9-1-1.” The suspect again took off but police caught up to him a few blocks away. Officers took the man into custody and the store clerk reportedly identified him as the same person from the incident the night before.

Dawayne Tuleya, a transient in SLO, was arrested for suspicion of felony criminal threats and brandishing.

Tuleya, “is also facing felony vandalism charges for three different vehicles that he has [allegedly] vandalized with a knife over the last month,” Lt. Amoroso said. “Damage to the cars is estimated to be over $5,000.” His bail was set at $90,000.
