Women’s Legacy Grant to BBBS

Big Brothers Big Sisters received a $5,000 grant from the Women’s Legacy Fund, through the Community Foundation San Luis Obispo that will help the mentoring program continue to help kids in SLO County.

“This grant will support curriculum designed to build self-esteem, develop youth’s sense of empowerment and build skills to resist bullying,” according to the BBBS. “Youth participants will have greater opportunities for growth thus achieving higher aspirations, greater confidence, improved relationships, avoidance of risky behaviors and greater educational success.”

“Last year,” Sheena Jones, BBBS school based specialist said, “93% of participating elementary students reported a greater sense of social acceptance and 85% said they felt more confident in school. We are extremely grateful to The Woman’s Legacy Fund for making it possible for us to serve more vulnerable youth this year.” BBBS programs are available throughout SLO County.
