Earlier this month, the Grover Beach Police Department along with an agent from the California Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) conducted a Minor Decoy Operation where an underage individual attempted to purchase alcohol from various retail establishments in the city. This was the third of several planned Alcohol Enforcement Operations in the city.
In all, six locations were visited by the enforcement team.
“Unfortunately, the minor was successful in purchasing alcohol at two locations, Spoon Trade Restaurant and Round Table Pizza. The retailer at both locations was issued a misdemeanor citation for the alcohol sales violation,” said Grover Beach Police Chief John Peters.
In addition to the Minor Decoy Operation, GBPD and ABC officers witnessed an overly intoxicated person who could not properly care for themselves enter the 7-Eleven Store at 390 W. Grand Ave. and purchase more alcohol from the retailer in violation of the law, according to a news release. The retailer was issued a misdemeanor citation for the alcohol sales violation and the intoxicated person was issued a misdemeanor citation for being drunk in public and later released to a sober caregiver.
Alcohol Enforcement Operations are being conducted through-out the city as part of a grant to the police department in order to reduce alcohol violations in Grover Beach. The grant was awarded by the State of California Alcohol Beverage Control back in August 2016.
