Jam into the New Year with Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market!

Downtown SLO FM -The wandering madmanThough holiday music can be quite endearing, I think many of us can relate to the feeling of relief as it comes to an end and our favorite tunes are back on the radio.  One of the highlights at the Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market is a sampling of artists who come out each week to share their passion, music.  Many local musicians have made it a point to find a home on the streets of Downtown at The Market to bring us our favorite hits while incorporating new tunes into the mix to keep things fresh. We are so grateful for our musicians who set the mood of the Market, which is really about creating a space for people to connect to and expand their community here in SLO.

One of our returning favorites is the Wandering Madman, who left behind touring with Leon Russel and Elton John to play his tunes out of his “mobile concert venue” also known as “Betsy”.  Though he has traveled all over California in Betsy, he recently noted that along with the beautiful weather, it is performing for the “magnificent” locals and the students that has kept him coming back to Downtown SLO Farmer’s Market.  For the Wandering Madman sharing his music stretches far beyond a single performance as he beautifully stated “The world needs change, the world needs growth.  I wish only to build bridges and although I am no architect, through inspiration my bridges will be built even if the hands are not my own”.

Downtown SLO FM - Nicholas PlewtongNicholas Plewtong is another local who made his appearance at The Market in fall of 2014 while attending Cal Poly where he also played with the symphony.  Nicholas has branched off from the sound of the symphony harnessing his love for the electric violin to deliver a unique and riveting musical experience.  Nicholas has been playing on his own for just over two years, but developed his love for music back in elementary school.  He has been influenced by artists like Lindsey Stirling and Bryson Andres, but credited his mother with being his main supporter and the reason he still plays music today.

One of the best aspects of the Market for our music enthusiasts is the guarantee that just like our veggies, you can count on a variety to choose from. Along with Wandering Madman and Nicholas Plewtong, there are many other performances coming up this January including Box the Oxford, Anthony Roselli, Kaylee Smith, Banjer Dan, Lord of the Cello, Crustacea Jazz Band and Nathan Rivera.  What better way to warm up on a chilly night than to dance in support of our musicians.  Parents looking to have a peaceful night are encouraged to bring their kids along to dance out all that energy from a long day of school.

In addition to the tunes, Discover Healthy Living Tours will be returning to the Market on January 21.  For those of you who missed the tours last time, you can sign up to take a tour with Registered Dieticians from Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center &Morrison Healthcare who will provide education on the health benefits of the many offerings at The Market.  If you are interested in signing up for a tour, please email .

As always, you will be able to find farm-fresh produce and goods and a huge assortment of delicious cuisine to continue to inspire you to Discover Local Flavor.
