SLO Seaman In The Thick Of Korean Mess

A San Luis Obispo native son with the U.S. Navy is in the thick of the growing mess in the budding showdown with North Korea.

According to the Navy Office of Community Outreach, Seaman Brendan Quinn of SLO is stationed aboard the guided-missile destroyer, USS Wayne E. Meyer, part of the Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group, which was recently ordered to steam to the Korean Peninsula.

The 3rd Fleet has been in the news of late, as part of the escalating tensions between the U.S. and North Korea, over the communist nation’s efforts to perfect nuclear missile technology and the firing off of numerous rockets with the stated goal of one day being able to attack the Continental U.S. with nuclear weapons.

In the photo, Seaman Quinn “uses hand signals to communicate to Sailors on the forecastle to lower him into the ocean during a search and rescue portion of a seamanship training team drill,” reads a news release from the Navy. Submitted photo
