The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office is seeking donations for its Christmas Bike Program, and readers can donate smaller, children’s sized bikes to the cause.
To donate a child’s bike, bring it to any of the Sheriff’s Office’s Patrol Stations (on 10th Street in Los Osos) or to the Honor Farm located on Oklahoma Avenue, off Hwy 1 at Kansas. For 5-more bikes, call 781-4637 and they’ll pick them up.
“The Christmas Bike Program began 24-years ago with the idea of promoting the holiday spirit by giving away refurbished bicycles with new helmets to underprivileged children in San Luis Obispo County,” said Sheriff’s Spokesman Tony Cipolla.
Inmates at the County Honor Farm repair the donated bikes, using some new and used parts, as a work program that boosts self-respect and a sense of giving back to he community.
The bikes will be given away at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 15 at the Honor Farm parking lot. To get an application for a child in need to get a new bike, email Sgt. Stephanie Landgraf at: [email protected] before Thursday, Dec. 1 the official deadline for applications.
